2.1 Location

The Lake Minnetonka subwatershed is located in the central part of the upper  MCWD, and includes both direct drainage areas to the lake as well as minor subwatersheds.  The subwatershed contains all or parts of the cities of Orono, Minnetrista, Mound, Spring Park, Shorewood, Minnetonka Beach, Tonka Bay, Wayzata, Woodland, Deephaven, Minnetonka, Greenwood, Excelsior, Victoria, and Chanhassen (see Figure 1).  The subwatershed is 32,515 acres in size (50.8 square miles).  The various bays of Lake Minnetonka have a total surface area of approximately 21.9 square miles, and the direct drainage and minor subwatersheds total about 28.9 square miles in area.
