SUNday FUNday

Lake Nokomis, Minneapolis
Sunday, June 11, 2017 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

It goes without saying that our local waters are critically important to survival for all kinds of reasons - for drinking, as habitat, for navigation and for power. Beyond all that stuff, a nice lake or stream is also just a lot of fun.

Join us from 10 a.m. to noon on Sunday, June 11, at Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis to celebrate the ways a lake can put a smile on your face. Activities at this free event include canoeing, paddle boarding, kayaking (bring your own kayak), water-themed miniature golf, geocaching, an 11am tour of the Lake Nokomis Naturescape butterfly gardens, and more. To celebrate “Take a Kid Fishing Weekend,” there will be a fishing clinic for the little ones. At noon, Metro Blooms will be hosting a bike tour of local gardens. It's the final tour of the Nokomis Blooming Alley for Clean Water projects. Bring your own bike! To sign up for the bike ride, visit

The event will take place at the Lake Nokomis Main Beach and is free and open to all ages.

SUNday FUNday is part of “Jump In & Make a Splash!”- a series of community events across the watershed celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District. The series concludes with the Sunset Celebration on Thursday, November 2 at St. Mary’s Greek Orthodox Church in Minneapolis, featuring live music, food and drink. Tickets are $40. People who attend at least five events qualify for half-price admission and those who attend all nine events get in for free!

The event is sponsored by MCWD in partnership with Wilderness Inquiry, Paddlesculpt, Three Rivers Park District, Metro Blooms, Target, Freshwater Society, 1-800-GOT-JUNK?, Berne Scale, REI and Tonka Bay Marina.
