Fish Survey in Minnehaha Creek and Lake Hiawatha
A fish survey was conducted by Blue Water Science for MCWD on October 20-23, 2009 at four sites within the 22 mile Minnehaha Creek corridor. The four sites surveyed were Grays Bay Pool, Meadowbrook Lake, Utley Pool, and then Lake Hiawatha.
The dominant fish at all four sites were black bullheads, carp, and dogfish. White suckers were common at three of the sites except the Grays Bay pool site. Overall fish biomass was dominated by low-oxygen tolerant species such as bullheads, carp, and dogfish, which probably has an adverse impact on water quality in the creek and in the shallow connected lakes such as Meadowbrook and Hiawatha.
