The Water Quality Department monitors the health of MCWD lakes and streams and prepares the annual hydrodata report. It conducts ecological studies and administers research grant program. Main initiatives include:

• Monitoring the ecosystem services of District lakes, streams, & wetlands
• Conducting fish, vegetation, and macroinvertebrate ecological studies
