The Minnehaha Creek Watershed District (MCWD) Board of Managers is considering a request from the City of Wayzata for a Variance to the City Stormwater Management and Wetland Protection Ordinances as described below and is scheduled to take action on permit at the meeting date listed above. MCWD procedures require notice to all property owners within 600' of the proposed area as a courtesy, in the event there are any questions or concerns.

The City of Wayzata proposes to redevelop a parking lot in the northern portion of several parcels near the intersection of Lake Street and Barry Avenue to provide 154-215 parking stalls for public and private parking. The plans show a shortfall from providing the minimum wetland buffer width and meeting the stormwater management ordinance. Any variance from the City’s Wetland Protection and Stormwater Management Ordinances must be considered by the MCWD Board of Managers. The stated request for the Variance to the City of Wayzata Ordinances is due to the proximity of the project to a degraded wetland, the presence of a high groundwater table, and a soil boring report documenting a petroleum contamination. The project proposes to treat stormwater runoff with rain guardians and implement a wetland restoration project.
