Potential for High Water
The National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting approximately 2 inches of rain across the Minnehaha Creek Watershed starting Monday evening and continuing into Wednesday. Ahead of this forecast, the watershed received just over half an inch of precipitation Sunday night. This is a significant amount of precipitation and is expected to increase water levels across the watershed, including on Lake Minnetonka and Minnehaha Creek.
The Minnehaha Creek Watershed District (MCWD) is holding dam discharge at 75 cubic feet per second (cfs) to maintain storage in Minnehaha Creek ahead of the upcoming storm. This will allow precipitation from the forecasted storm to run off from the lower watershed and flow through the creek before dam discharge is increased to recapture storage on Lake Minnetonka for future rainfall events.
