Potential for High Water
The National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting approximately 1.13 inches of rain across the Minnehaha Creek Watershed beginning Sunday morning and continuing into Monday. In advance of this forecast, the watershed is predicted to receive nearly 1 inch Friday into Saturday morning. As forecasted, this significant amount of precipitation is expected to increase water levels across the watershed throughout the weekend and into next week.
To prepare for the forecasted precipitation, the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District (MCWD) decreased the Gray’s Bay Dam discharge to 75 cubic feet per second (cfs) on Thursday, May 30, 2024, to create capacity in Minnehaha Creek. This will allow the predicted precipitation to run off from the lower watershed and flow through the creek. Dam discharge may be increased after the storm to recapture storage on Lake Minnetonka for future rainfall events.
