Potential for High Water
The National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting the potential for over 2 inches of rain between Thursday and Friday in the Minnehaha Creek Watershed. About half of this is predicted to fall over a 12-hour period starting late Thursday night. This forecast represents a relatively significant amount and intensity of rainfall, which is expected to further elevate water levels across the watershed.
Since June 15, the watershed has received over 5 inches of rain, leading to a heavily saturated system and rising water levels. Due to already wet conditions from recent rainfall events, additional rain this week may cause out of bank flow in Minnehaha Creek and may lead Lake Minnetonka to rise above the emergency spillway.
