Water Levels Gradually Decrease Through Fall

Water levels across the Minnehaha Creek Watershed steadily decreased throughout most of September 2025. The month saw one significant, multi-day storm event from Thursday, September 18, through Sunday, September 21, which yielded nearly 2 inches of precipitation and briefly elevated water levels.

Lake Minnetonka’s level rose 1.5 inches, peaking at 929.23 feet on September 21, due to the rainfall, subsequent inflows from its upper tributaries, and strong winds that impacted sensor readings. Flows in Minnehaha Creek fluctuated along with received rainfall, with flow at Hiawatha Avenue peaking at 218 cubic feet per second (cfs) on September 22. Water levels have subsided since the mid-September storms, with the current Lake level recorded at 928.72 feet and the Creek flowing at approximately 85 cfs at Hiawatha Avenue.
