Since 2015, MCWD has worked with communities in the watershed’s headwaters to develop and implement a collaborative vision to improve water and natural resources, while integrating local development goals in the Six Mile Creek – Halsted Bay (SMCHB) Subwatershed.
East Auburn Wetland Restoration Project Updates
Building on a suite of projects in the SMCHB subwatershed, a focal area for MCWD, the East Auburn Wetland Restoration project was identified as an opportunity to improve water quality in impaired East Auburn Lake. MCWD is restoring the hydrologic function of the East Auburn Wetland by installing a sheet pile weir, which will reduce nutrient pollution flowing downstream. The City of Victoria is also planning to complement the wetland restoration by replacing a failing boardwalk across the wetland, enhancing public safety and accessibility.
MCWD has been advancing project design since May 2024. Following a recent public meeting, the MCWD Board of Managers approved final design and authorized staff to solicit bids for construction in Winter 2025.
